BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Sanford is a writer and family medicine physician who specializes in travel and tropical medicine. Dr. Sanford is an associate professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Global Health at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He serves as director of the Travel Clinic, UW Neighborhood Northgate Clinic, and is the director of the University of Washington Department of Family Medicine Global Health Fellowship.  He practices at the UW Neighborhood Northgate Clinic, and teaches in UW’s Family Medicine Residency. He also serves as faculty for the Professional Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (East African Partnership), an annual three-month course conducted in Uganda and Tanzania.

His most recent book is Staying Healthy Abroad: A Global Traveler’s Guide (December 2018, University of Washington Press).  He is lead editor of Travel and Tropical Medicine Manual, 5th Edition, (2016, Elsevier) with co-editors Drs. Paul Pottinger and Elaine Jong, and writes regularly on travel and tropical medicine for a number of publications, including the Merck Manual (both Professional and Home editions). 

In addition to teaching each year in Uganda, Dr. Sanford enjoys travel to pretty much everywhere on the planet. He lives in Seattle.
